Unless you go in person to the consualte, you are not going to be able to speak to anyone. Moreover with suacha tight time constraint, you should have made a visit to the embassy and should have used your US address, which is what they ask you do at the DC Embassy.

You can have AOS and H-1b concurrently. If you have the time, I would renew your H-1B visa at the consulate and re-enter using H-1b. It is much less hassle than to return using AP.

I AM ALSO victim of same situation. I got my RFE and replied already but wife's RFE hasn't been received and its been more than 3 weeks. My atty called, sent letters and I also called but no letter yet. Don't know why this same pattern happening?

I finally got my AP, 15 days after my EAD (100 days total) . I was happy to open the packet, until this......
THEY SENT ME MY AP WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S PICTURE!!!!!!!
Everything else is Correct (address, DOB, A# etc...)
GURUS, please advise what should I do...... I am so pissed!!!!! Thankfully my EAD has the correct pic.... I had done an E-file....June 7th and my previous AP expires Sept 20
Do ypu remember that Seinfeld episode where Costanza airbrushes off himself from the picture in Kruger's office. You could try something similar.. Just kidding :D. My sympathies are with you dear friend. Murphy's law always holds true when it comes to dealing with USCIS.

I had an error message in the past few days. But when I tried it today, and I was able to schedule an appointment. There are dates available from June 1-12 (week days).

Guys,
I am seeing in CRIS, Soft LUD's on old H1B extentions dated 12/30/07 (2006,2007) while none recent one on 140/485!
Any ideas to help me understand. My 140/485 were filed in July 2007 concurrently. FP/EAD/AP were done.

I can aply for visitors visa an visit cananda while my PR is in proceess right..??
You can visit Canada when your PR is pending, provided you have a valid visitor visa. They'll issue you a visitor visa even though your PR App is pending.
However once your PR app. is approved, you can only apply for a immigrant visa, and get into Canada as a Landed immigrant. From posts from another thread what I understand is you can return to US soon after you land in Canada as a Landed immigrant. Hope this clarifies.

AOS is neither vaild non-immigrant status nor immigrant status. It is a "period of authorized stay" based on contigency of approval of 485. Though, it has work authorization, there is no law clearly says they are eligible for school or any other benefits that immigrants enjoy. Therefore, it is difficult to explain to those have limited knowledge. It is better to get a letter from immigrant lawer to explain to school or just follow what school is suggesting.

So you haven't received a denial letter yet.
The most common reasons for EB I-485 denials:
1. Incorrect fee enclosed/Incomplete form
2. Underlying I-140 is denied/revoked/withdrawn
3. An applicant is inadmissible for permanent residency (status violations, unlawful presence, etc.) according to the USCIS
For reason 2 you can file appeal/MTR(MOTIC) with the USCIS
For reason 3 the only option is to file a lawsuit in a federal district court.

If you are really dying to save money, Don't apply for I485. Comeon, when you are spending thousands on your greencard why do you care for 5-10 dollars.

I feel stupid replying to this totally irrelevant thread, but I will reply any way. Your bill is for two and a half months duration. That makes it a monthly bill of around $350-360 or so. These are winter months, meaning you must be operating heater full time. If you heater is on a "always on" setting instead of "auto" setting, and you happen to keep any windows in your apartment open all the time,then that alone is sufficient to do you for. Also, if your kitchen burners/oven run on electricity instead of gas, that could also jack up the bill. Taking into account all these factors, it does not sound all that unreasonable, does it? Just check these points before shouting murder.

We got a new SSN for my wife after we got her EAD in the mail. They did not ask for the birth certificate. They only needed a valid id (such as passport/ driving license) + the EAD card + completed application form. We got the SSN card in less than 10 days, but I think this depends on where you are. If it helps, we were told 10 days, and we actually got it in 10 days.

I submitted my passport renewal in december 09 and received my new passport in feb 10. Exactly 3 months to the date. Its a pretty slow process. Initially they gave me a Jan date to pick the passport ( I did not personally not via mail) and when I went there they said they had not received police clearance from India (no change in house or any info from old passport) but good part was they said they will call me when the passport is ready and they did call. Other wise there is no way to contact them. The phone just rings and rings and message box is full.

If everybody writes one letter per week to President O. and mail it using postal mail, soon their would be a buzz. We need that buzz now.
It will cost us $.44 each to mail letter and as these letters continue to pour in (obviously re-directed to waste bin), the word about all this will leak to media and ultimately to Mr. O.
