I will answer some of your questions to the best of my knowledge.
There is also a lot of information on advocacy on the top of this page, 'Advocacy' tab.
Red threads are action items started and approved by admin/core. donor threads say "donor forum" on the title.
Admins are still in the process of organizing, and a lot of this can be done only once we finalize most of the volunteers and donations collected - it will depend on this.
Contributions are optional and no money is expected from volunteers, except what you spend for your own stay and travel. We need to underscore this point over and over again with a sense of urgency. Having to wait ~5-10 years for permanent residence **just because of country of birth**, a discrimination practiced only against Indians and Chinese (well, I know it's country quotas and each country has one, but it only impacts Indians and Chinese) is nothing but a grave human rights abuse.
As the President has said many times over, "the time is now". This needs to be fixed.

So far all the arguments and suggestions were really good. But Totoro seems to be looking for compelling stories. There are very depressing cases where people had to restart their GC process for no fault of their own. And some people have been here for more than 10 years still rotting in the queue hoping to get a GC and move on with their dreams to become a Citizen of this country.
However the collective compelling story is what Eternal Hope has expressed. This is exactly the situation for people from India/China.
Sure anchor babies is not a great argument for illegals cause it promotes illegal immigration. (In fact I heard in some countries Citizenship by birth only works if the parents are legals. But thats a different story.).
Let us say because of the reasons listed by Eternal Hope we are forced to go back to our home countries.
Firstly, How fair will that be for our children who are Legit Citizens of US.
These innocent kids know only US as their home. Just as much as any other US Citizen. Most of the kids can only speak english. They can barely understand their mother tongue. Point is they are just as American as any American kid.
If they are forced to go to a foreign country, far from their friends and familiar surroundings. Had the change been for the better, still they would feel they were wronged. My guess is they will hold a grudge against us, their parents, and their own country.
This to me is compelling reason, specially since I am a Democrat (sorry can't vote yet).
BTW, my moral support has always with Obama, and with Zoe Loefgren.
Many of us cried when Obama read his oath. That was the defining moment for all people who have been subjected to injustice, been told that they were not good enough because of their race or country of origin. Think about it... The Chinese and Indians having to wait so many years just to get a GC is injustice being done to a people of certain origin. Oh well!

First of all...Hats off to IV for doing an incredible job !!!
My labor has been collecting dust in the Dallas BEC since 2001, my PD is Nov 2001, non-RIR. The online system still states that my case is in process. I am equally frustrated like all my fellow BEC victims, but I think there is no reason to feel left out or unhappy just because some people could jump the queue and get in front of us. The best we can do is congratulate them on their good fortune and hope that the DOL sticks to their deadline and clear all BEC cases by sep. If they miss the sep deadline (i wont be surprised if they do), I guess IV can help us in organising another flower campaign or a rally based on the recent success.
Lets keep the faith and stay the course !!!

July 31st will probably be your RD. Unless they mess it up. I read somewhere that it got messed up for someone.
I mailed my I-485 to NSC, CSC issued the receipts, and sent me a transfer notice (transferred to TSC). It is now pending at TSC. But the RD is the date NSC received my package.
Lasantha, I do congratulate you from the bottom of my heart. It has been a uphill journey for everyone. I am happy that you have completed your journey successfully.
One last question,
You mentioned your RD is June 29th. Is it the date from your FEDEX tracking #? Or this date is mentioned on your USCIS 485 receipt? Why am I asking this as because, I sent my application on 30th July, USCIS got it on JULY 31st. I sent it to NSC, USCIS transferred to TSC, TSC issued my EAD, AP and a 485 notice on Sep 22 mentioning that they are transferring my case to NSC. That is why it is very important for me to know if they will consider my JULY 31st date or Sep 22nd?

Stillhopefull you have been current for a while, so they should be working on yours...one would think...I do believe Texas is behind though, according to the uscis web site Nebraska is processing July and Texas not yet.

Future action items might include drafting documents and letters to support this provision. There maybe actions such as sending emails etc. However we would not be able to open a public action item unless we can have thousands of our members willing to participate in a grassroots action item. This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.
The fact is we have a dedicated group of volunteers (and we need more) who have been trying their best to spread the message about this initiative so that a strong grass-roots support can be created leading up to launch of the public action items. So far we have around 1100 people who have responded. Based on quick calculations carried out using PERM data, it is estimated that there are at least 60K-70K EB applicants waiting to file I-485/EAD/AP (this is a very conservative estimate..the actual number could be much more). Grass-roots initiatives require time and patience and we request maximum number of impacted folks to participate actively.

Employment-Based Immigrant Visa Numbers
May Become Unavailable Sooner Than Expected
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
It has been reported that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has indicated that employment-based numbers may be exhausted sooner than expected and could become unavailable or subject to new retrogression during the month of July. USCIS reportedly has sufficient numbers of immigrant cases in its adjudications pipeline to meet the reported 40,000 employment-based visa numbers that remain for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007. If employment-based numbers become unavailable in mid-month, USCIS could cease accepting applications for adjustment of status before the end of the July, though it is not yet possible to predict when this could occur.
It has been reported and unofficially confirmed by FRAGOMEN that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has indicated that employment-based immigrant visa numbers may be exhausted sooner than expected and could become unavailable or subject to new retrogression during the course of the month of July. This would be contrary to information in the July Visa Bulletin issued by the Department of State, which stated projected availability through the month of July.
Agency representatives have reportedly stated that USCIS has sufficient numbers of employment-based immigrant cases that are ready to be approved and counted against the estimated 40,000 employment-based numbers that remain for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007. USCIS has not officially confirmed these reports. Our understanding is that discussions on the issue of visa availability have been escalated to a high level in the government and we will continue to seek definitive information.
There has been speculation that a change in anticipated demand may be the result of inaccurate projections by the government about the number of employment-based cases that are both ready for approval and have completed security checks.
If employment-based numbers become unavailable, it is likely that USCIS would stop accepting applications for adjustment of status, regardless of the information contained in the July Visa Bulletin. It is also possible that the State Department could release a Supplemental Visa Bulletin that updates its forecasts of visa availability. Though it is possible that USCIS would continue to accept adjustment applications through July despite visa unavailability, this appears to be unlikely.
As previously mentioned, it is our understanding that discussions are underway both within USCIS and between USCIS and the Department of State, and FRAGOMEN continue to seek more definitive information. Look my friend, there is no logic like RD vs PD. If there were I would have had my green card before most here even filed their 485s. My 485 is pending for over 4 yrs now.
I have had people with PDs after me, RDs after me, all sorts approved and I am waiting.
This is a game of luck and chance.
The USCIS process is chaotic and disorganised in the way they do things. If you are lucky you get your approval earlier, if you are not, your application languishes in some salt mine in Utah or wherever else NSC stores their pending applications.
I think I saw this in one of the ombudsman's reports to congress. A certain percentage of files are misplaced/lost every year. I have a sinking feeling - mine could be one of these. If so, I will have to wait until someone at USCIS stumbles on it :-). I agree completely with you and there is really no way to predict how USCIS processes GC's. USCIS incompetence is boundless.

Some folks can't even bear the thought if some one thinks they should try to influence the law makers.

There are some docs who are working Overtime and charging $50 or $100 more for Immigration appt ... you might have to dorive down a little bit.
Try to find a Desi doctor - they can do the Imm check up right now if you pay them more and request.
The doc i did was charging $50 more for special evening Immg appts - luckily i took appt On June 15th before the rush started and saved some dollars.
Wish the statement from your attorney is true and we all will be able to file 485 through the month of July with no issue. I'm luckly to get the paper work done and ship the package to Attorney and waiting on their action, But have few friends who could get Medical Appointment only around second/third week of July. Also this EW Other Worker Quota that became unavailable and also rejection of these applications has made us worry a lot, although it is a diffferent category we are at fear that this could happen to us. Reading the VB again, the reduction in the EW annual limit to 5,000 began in Fiscal Year 2002... So this category has only 5000 Visas and I'm not surprised this bacame unavailable and think this category is far more crowded than others... We should be fine atleast in July... May be too optimistic... but nothing wrong in hoping for the best and wish all the members can file asap.

No. Last year we had an RFE as my wife's medicals were missing a signature. As Pappu mentioned in another thread most of them were pre approved and were waiting on visa numbers I think.
Thanks. My case was pre-approved in September 2009 (I have confirmed this fact twice (Infopass and Service Center officer) - now am looking at my inbox, sms, and US CIS account all day, waiting for any sign of approval
